We are big fans of fundraising ideas that coincide with holidays.  Why?  Because often it’s easier to provide a service in exchange for a donation around a holiday then at a random time during the year (for example, Christmas gift wrapping).  Providing a service helps prevent exhausting your base of supporters with constant fundraising appeals, as many will consider this type of fundraiser a helpful service and not a tired call for donations.  Not only that, because holidays make it easy to provide a service, they also provide a unique opportunity to reach out beyond your usual base of supporters; only a supporter would be interested in buying a “Save the Whales” T-shirt, but any member of the general public might be interested in having their gutters cleaned by a Save the Whales volunteer.

For this Valentine’s Day fundraiser, you can offer to prepare and deliver “Candygrams,” bags of candy delivered with a custom card, for a fee.  This is great for a high school setting.  Additionally, you can offer to deliver flowers to recipients on Valentine’s Day (you can negotiate a high volume and/or non-profit rate with a florist ahead of time).  Though delivering flowers might seem like a fundraiser best run only by people of an age to also receive flowers, don’t overlook this fundraiser’s suitability as a fundraising idea for kids (with the involvement of parents, of course).  Kids can deliver the flowers on behalf of their organization and you could actually use the fact that a cute child will deliver the flowers as a selling point.
