This is an easy and relatively quick fundraising idea.  All you have to do is collect used and broken electronics from your group’s supporters and other members of the community and resell them to You Renew, a company that buys used and broken electronics.  While there are several companies that will buy used and broken electronics, we recommend You Renew (we do not benefit from recommending this company) because it is a legitimate company (many companies that purchase used electronics are not while You Renew has been profiled and scrutinized by many major news organizations); it has a simple online system by which you can tell how much you will receive per electronic device before putting anything in the mail; and it has a wonderful corporate site that would be perfect for non-profit organizations looking to sell a large quantity of donated used electronics.

While you’re at it, you could also ask your supporters to donate used books (which can be resold online), empty ink cartridges (there is an aftermarket for empty cartridges on Ebay or you can refill them and sell them for a premium yourself), baby clothes (many people are quick to want to declutter and get rid of baby clothes as soon as they’ve had their last child) and other items.  Make sure to frame your pitch to your supporters in a way as to suggest that this fundraising campaign is one of great synergy: Your organization can raise money and your organization’s supporters can declutter their homes by getting rid of things that no longer have value to them.
